Bottom Line:

If you're looking for a unique album that you're willing to take a chance on, this is it. Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband has taken great pride in making authentic music that does not fit the average mainstream radio. Hearing their latest effort Last Man Standing, you will be exposed to their wide range of talents and music.

Being a huge fan of independent styles of country music, I was excited to have the chance to review Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband's new album. I was a little shocked once it started playing. In a way, a lot of the material sounds the same, yet there is a unique blend of music as well. It's not that it's a horrible album or the music is bad, it's just unique in many different ways, and some are not my "cup of tea."

"Don't Leave Me Lonely" has a great beat and the music is rather interesting and the words have a good story. This is about a guy in love who is hoping the girl feels the same way. There is a banjo solo towards the end, and it's neat. The chorus is rather repetitive though.

I really enjoyed the title track. This is a mixture of hardcore country music and almost a rap style of wording throughout the song. It's about a man who was born to go straight to the top and "nobody can deny it, he'll be number one."

"Please Be Mine" is extremely catchy. Anyone who listens to this album is bound to like this song. This group has some amazing musicians, and they really shine throughout this tune.

One tune that is different is "If You Could Live A Different Life." It's kind of country and kind of reggae. It's simply about how some people would change their lives if they had the chance. This is a tune that you would have to judge for yourself. Some people will love it and some will hate it. Don't let anyone other than yourself make that call.

"Lonely Person" slows it down and has a nice mandolin playing in the background. This is one song that proves how some people are totally alone and everyone else takes their lives for granted. "There ain't gonna be no Christmas cards, ain't gonna be no birthday balloons" describes the things we assume everyone gets, but that's not always the case. The acoustics are fantastic and they really help embrace the mood of the song.

Speeding things back up with "Be The One," it's obvious love is the subject. Sometimes when people are in love and it's new, they act goofy, but in this song, he has a hard time even talking.

If you're favorite food is "Corn Dogs," you now have a song that's named after and dedicated to your meal on a stick. I never thought anyone loved "Corn Dogs" so much that they could write a song about them, but the final song on this album proves there is.

Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband's sophomore album "Last Man Standing" is quite different, but you be the judge. This is music and everyone has different tastes.
