Bottom Line:

This is a very unique and interesting book that was written by Robert Hicks. He compiled a stack of short stories that were written by some of country music's finest songwriters. If you are the type of person that truly zeros in on every detail, you need to read A Guitar And A Pen. You will be amazed at some of the wild ideas and heartfelt stories that these artists have come up with.

There is a ton of literature about country music that you can find at any of your local bookstores. It doesn't matter if you're looking for biographies, autobiographies, or a book listing what songs were hot for a particular year. Now there is a new book, full of short stories that you can own, that were written by some of the best songwriters in the world.

Robbie Fulks, Tia Sillers, Bobby Braddock, Gary Nicholson, Charlie Daniels, Bob DiPiero, Hazel Smith, Tim Johnson and many more, all offer their stories in order to create an awesome book. These stories are about life, love, growing up in the south, and even some quirky southern humor. Each story is an average of five or six pages and each focuses on something different. The great thing about this book is that it gets to the point and will have you begging for more. After you finish, you'll understand why one little story could have been a full book. It's great!

Grand Ole Opry star and Country Music Hall Of Fame Member Vince Gill was kind enough to write the Forward and it couldn't have turned out better. His words say a lot and you can truly see how grateful he is to be involved in such an awesome industry.

This is the perfect book for any mood. It doesn't matter if you're looking for a couple hours of relaxation or simply five minutes away from the real world, this book will get the job done.

The first story is "The Day Jimmy Killed The Rabbit." As soon as I saw that Tom T. Hall had written this short story, I knew it was going to be a clever journey, in a country setting. However, some assumptions were incorrect, there were a few surprises that will keep you guessing until the end. This displays every ounce of talent that Hall can express with only a pen and paper. It takes you to a time when life was tough and taking care of family was the number one priority. Told through the eyes of a boy, this story will touch you heart any day of the week.

Tia Sillers delivers a humorous story about family. We all have an oddball in our group. You can't help it, however, most of us do accept them and know it's way beyond our control. Describing this story is tough and would either get way too in depth or too confusing. So, take my word for it, this book is worth getting just for this story alone.

Grand Ole Opry member Hal Ketchum wrote one of shortest stories, but the impact is probably the biggest. "The Clock Struck Nine" is about a woman who woke up on what would be the last day of her life. Her mission that morning was to be a terrorist. She had to make it to the train station for morning rush hour. You'll have to read the rest to see how it ends, but it is an awesome story. Hal Ketchum's mind is amazing.

If you or someone in your family is an avid reader, do them a favor and get them A Guitar And A Pen.
