Guide Review
Aaron Tippin - Aaron Tippin
Aaron Tippin has one of the most distinctive and truly country voices in country music today. With this, his debut album, he showed immediately that he meant business. Not for him the pretty-boy look that was popularized at the time; instead, a solidly built body builder with a crewcut glowered from the CD jacket; no cowboy hat, no soft lazy smile. This was country music for the hard working, hard drinking, road-weary working class. This was real country music. When he said "You've got to STAND for something," he meant it.

His music is as hardcore as his appearance. With his gritty, edged voice growling out such songs as "Ain't That A Hell Of A Note" and "She Made a Memory Out of Me," he sang songs guaranteed to be popular in juke-joints and truckstops all along the interstates. But this solid warrior of real country is not without his softer edge, as that rough edge could soften to a tear-soaked burr for "In My Wildest Dreams" and "I Wonder How Far It Is Over You," the loneliness clear in every crying tone.

Aaron Tippin wrote or co-wrote all 10 tracks on this disc; as a musician, he is joined here by magnificent artists such as Mark O'Connor on mandolin and fiddle, Paul Franklin on steel, Sam Bush on fiddle, and Vince Gill on background vocals. They join together to create a country album that still stands up, just as good as it ever was.
